Categories for Induction: In order to achieve the award purpose, three categories have been identified that embody the North Nodaway Legacy Award.
1. Institutional Impact: This person or team transformed the North Nodaway R-VI School District through resources or district leadership.
2. Civic Leadership: This person has elevated the towns of Hopkins and Pickering through community development or developing community traditions.
3. Global Citizenship: This person has brought honor to the district through major societal achievements elsewhere.
Award: Each recipient will receive an engraved plaque and a duplicate plaque will be displayed on the North Nodaway Legacy Award Wall located in the North Nodaway High School Commons. The school district will take care of purchasing the plaques.
Recipients: The number of recipients will be limited as this is meant to be a prestigious award and embody the purpose of this award. The initial honorees will be awarded in May 2027. This initial group combined with those in 2028 should not exceed 12 people. Each subsequent year should be limited to 1 to 3 total recipients as determined by the Selection Committee. A recipient can include a “team” of people who exemplifies the award. In this particular case, the award will honor the “team” and will not list everyone separately. A recipient can be living or given posthumously.
Nominations Process: Anyone can complete a nomination form that is listed on our school website. All nominations forms must be completed and submitted to the school office no later than April 1st of each year. The applications will be reviewed and recipients will be notified prior to the school’s alumni banquet in May. Awards will be presented the night of the Alumni banquet that is hosted each year in May. If for some reason there are no nominations, the selection committee could reconsider previous nominations from the prior year that weren’t recognized. Anyone can be nominated and can receive the award if the selection committee deems.
Selection Process/Selection Committee: To ensure integrity, the final inductee(s) will be chosen by secret ballot of a committee comprised of: the current North Nodaway School District Superintendent; all previous award winners, President of the Alumni Association, and a school board delegate. This committee will get to set the number of yearly honorees (1-3) and then will vote to see who the top vote getters are to be honored. Should there be a tie in the voting, it will be decided by the school board delegate, Superintendent, and the President of the Alumni Association. If any selection committee member is nominated, they should abstain from the voting process that year.
